Week 4

Last week of January and no clothes bought or even desired ( except the Boden dress!). It helps not to visit any shops. A friend told me that the sales are amazing this year, with 70% off various items. I’ll just wait till next year!. Guess it’s the death of the High Street – a pity for us oldies who enjoy feeling and trying on before we buy. Then the pleasure of the purchase of course.

On an entirely different note how did I begin my love of clothes. My first memory of my love of clothes was as early as five years old. I remember wearing a pretty dress with little orange flowers on. It was a very favourite dress and as I was handed my newly born brother to hold for the first time he was sick on it!!! I haven’t quite forgiven him.

Dress of the week. I do love Demin dresses they last forever!

Week 3

My sister in law’s birthday on the 15 th and we enjoyed an afternoon in Leamington followed by Little Woman at the cinema. We did a spot of retail therapy in her favourite shop, White Stuff . I’ve always liked shopping with others and enjoyed the vicarious experience of advising rather than buying.

Good sale purchase and a birthday treat too!!

First week back at work after cancer treatment. So was back in my school uniform of my older clothes especially assigned for work. It must be a hang up from childhood in the 1960’s when one always had a separate uniform for work, coupled with the practicality of not attempting painting with 30 five and six year olds in ones best dress! More about the influences of childhood in the next weeks!

Dress of the week but not for work!

Week 2

Well I’ve just returned from a week in Spain which was a way of marking the end of the cancer experience and a return to relative normal life post cancer. Remission I guess.

Normally when I’m abroad one of my joys is hunting a bargain on the markets or in the shops, along with the inevitable trip to Zara and Massimo Dutti. Like so many of us I’m normally obsessed with a bargain . I return home gloating at how much I’ve saved by buying in Spain where Massimo Dutti is cheaper and even with the faltering pound one can save money in Zara.

First blog of 2020 week 1 Seems I in fashion not being in fashion!!

I intend to write once a week so here we go. I’ve just completed my course of radiotherapy and am spending a week in the sun to recover.

On the plane out I read an article in the Times about the headmistress of a school in London who also has a passion for clothing and is giving up clothes this year. She is also challenging her pupils to take comparable challenges to combat climate change. I intend to contact the headmistress in the article and find out how it goes.

A friend of mine also sent me a link to a Guardian article on the same topic written by Lauren Bravo who has just published a book . The book is titled How to break up with Fast Fashion and published on the 9 th January. I might give it a read.

So it seems that this year I’m in fashion not being in fashion!!!
